At New Charter, we could tell you our people are our greatest asset. Every company says that. Instead, we’ll just show you. It’s not just something we say. We truly hire top talent and build trust through shared values, and that’s what drives us forward.

We believe in investing in our people first. When we do that, it shows. From how we collaborate, how we execute, and the level of service we bring to this ever-evolving industry.

So, who are the faces behind all this momentum?

Meet Lana Chappell, our HCM Systems Analyst.

How long have you been part of the New Charter Community?

10 years. I started at Apex Technology Management in 2016, which is now part of New Charter.

What’s a part of your role that people outside of HR might not realize goes into keeping the company running smoothly?

I work in Workday and LearnUpon, building and maintaining processes that affect new hires, current employees, and even former employees. I especially love finding ways to make things more efficient — processes like onboarding, hiring, and transfers can always be refined and streamlined to reduce workload. I have a genuine passion for auditing data; there’s nothing quite like the satisfaction of a clean, accurate dataset.

What’s something about New Charter’s approach to its people/culture that you think sets it apart?

The People Team exists to serve our people — we’re a people-first organization. Our goal is to build and strengthen a culture where people feel psychologically safe. Every decision gets filtered through one question: how will this affect the people who work here and the people we serve? Our leaders care as much about our people as our financial success, because we know you can’t have one without the other. None of us — People Team, other teams, or leadership — could do this work without each other.

What’s one thing on your bucket list?

Honestly, I feel like I’ve done everything I’ve wanted to do — for now. When something new comes along that I want to pursue, I’ll go do that too.

Currently, the continued growth of my kids is my highest priority and passion. My boys are now young men, and my goal is to support them on whatever path they choose. They are excellent humans, and I am proud to be here to watch them grow!

If you had one extra free hour every day, how would you spend it?

I would spend it with my family. There is never enough time to spend with the people I love.

If you could give your first-week-at-New-Charter-self one piece of advice, what would it be?

You are in an organization of people that love to serve each other and want to support your growth. If there is something that you want to learn, speak up and learn it. If you are struggling, speak up and get help. You are your own best advocate.

Tell us about a small win from this past week — it can be work or personal!

I held a crow yoga pose for 5 seconds this week. I have never been able to do it before, so I am happy about that!
